How to Prepare for Your Tattoo Appointment
1. Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your appointment.
Hydrated skin, tattoos better and heals faster.
2. Eat a good meal beforehand
Have a solid meal 1–2 hours before your session.
This keeps your blood sugar steady and helps prevent light-headedness.
3. Avoid alcohol & drugs
Do not drink alcohol or use any drugs for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
They thin your blood and can affect the tattoo quality.
4. No blood thinners unless medically necessary
Avoid:
Aspirin
Ibuprofen
Energy drinks
Pre-workout
Excess caffeine
If a doctor prescribes blood thinners, do not stop taking them—just inform your artist.
5. Moisturize in the days before
Moisturize the area once or twice a day for several days before the appointment.
Do not moisturize the day of.
6. Shave only if you’re confident
If you're unsure, don’t shave—your artist can do it safely.
If you do shave, avoid cutting or irritating the skin.
7. Take a shower before coming
Arrive clean, with no lotions, oils, or perfumes on the area being tattooed.
8. Wear the right clothing
Wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to the tattoo area.
Black or dark-colored clothes are best.
9. Bring comfort items
Suggested items:
Headphones
Water
Snacks (especially for long sessions)
A hoodie or blanket
10. Be well-rested
Get a full night of sleep.
Being tired makes the tattoo process feel harder.
11. Prepare your skin
Avoid:
Sunburn
Tanning
Exfoliating the area
Heavy sweating or intense workouts right before the appointment
12. Know your design & placement
Have reference photos ready.
Make sure you’ve decided on placement and size, and be ready to discuss ideas :)
13. Don’t bring a crowd
Bring one guest max, for emotional support
Too many people can distract you and the artist.
14. Communicate with your artist
Let me know if you:
Have allergies
Have medical conditions
Have concerns about pain
Need breaks during the session
