TATTOO AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Leave the bandage on
Keep the bandage or wrap on for 2–3 hours (unless your artist gives different instructions).
Don’t touch or scratch the tattoo while it’s covered.
2. Wash your hands first
Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
3. Gently wash the tattoo
Remove the bandage and wash the tattoo with:
Lukewarm water
fragrance-free soap
(I recommend dial gold antibacterial soap & CeraVe hydrating cleanser bar)
you can get both at any local convenience store like target, Walmart, cvs
Use your fingertips only. no washcloths or scrubbing.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.
4. Apply a thin layer of ointment
Use only what your artist recommends I recommend using Aquaphor
for its cheap price and great results. you can also get this
product at any local convenience store like target, Walmart, cvs
(if there is a product you are interested in trying out, please consult with me before.)
Apply a VERY THIN layer—don’t smother the tattoo.
Do this 2–3 times a day for the first 3 days.
make sure your hands are clean
5. Switch to unscented lotion
After day 3, switch to a fragrance-free lotion.
any fragrance free lotion is okay
Apply 2–3 times a day to keep the skin lightly moisturized (not greasy).
6. No picking or scratching
Your tattoo will flake and peel like a sunburn—this is normal.
Do not:
Scratch
Peel
Pick at scabs
Let everything fall off naturally.
7. Keep it clean & avoid soaking
Avoid for 2–3 weeks:
Pools
Hot tubs
Baths
Saunas
Ocean/lake water
8. Avoid the sun
Keep it out of direct sunlight.
No tanning.
After it’s healed, always use SPF 30+ on your tattoo to keep it bright.
9. Wear loose clothing
Avoid tight or rubbing clothing over the fresh tattoo.
10. Watch for signs of infection
Contact the artist if you notice:
Excessive redness
Spreading swelling
Pus or foul smell
Fever
Healing timeline (quick guide)
Days 1–3: Sore, red, slightly oozing.
Days 4–14: Peeling, itching, flaking.
Days 15–30: Skin looks dull; deeper layers still healing.
